If you've got a boat, and you only use it for a few months out of the year, is it really necessary to buy boat insurance year-round?
Well, to answer that question, let's first look at what boat insurance is and what it covers.
What is boat insurance?
Boat insurance is comparable to car insurance. Depending on your boat's size, value, and how often you use it, you should buy boat insurance that will cover:-Liability, for when you're responsible for an accident;
-Physical Damage Coverage, which protects your boat on land or in the water, and covers
things like flooding, fires, vandalism, etc.;
-Collision, which covers the damage when you run into an object or other boat;
-Uninsured Boater, in case you're involved in an accident with someone without insurance; and
-Equipment, which protects your fishing gear or other tools and objects on your boat.
Why you should keep coverage year-round
Your boat isn't entirely safe when it's sitting unattended. Vandalism or bad weather could damage your boat, and if someone is hurt on or around it, even if it's not on the water, you could still be held liable.And besides, this is Florida! Keeping boat insurance all year long could encourage you to take advantage of the off-season, when there aren't so many people crowding the water!
