Blueberries: Candidate for Natural Wonder #8

Planet Earth is home to seven natural wonders. These seven creations found around the globe give persons reasons for pause as the marvel at the grandeur and sheer scope of the Natural Wonders of the world.

While their name isn't exactly original, the Seven Natural Wonders of the World are, indeed, both naturally occurring in nature and wonderful to behold. While some argue the wonders that should make the list, the commonly accepted seven include:

  • Grand Canyon
  • The Great Barrier Reef
  • The Harbor at Rio de Janeiro
  • Mt. Everest
  • Northern Lights
  • Paricutin Volcano
  • Victoria Falls

But while these are certainly wonderful, a case could be made for the inclusion of an eighth Natural Wonder— blueberry. June is National Blueberry Month, and as such let us remember the amazing, and downright wonderful, benefits of blueberries.

Though small, blueberries are packed with anti-oxidants and vitamin C, both of which promote general health in people who eat these tiny super foods regularly. The nutrients shoved into seemingly insignificant blueberries are anything but insignificant.

Making a case for inclusion into the Natural Wonders club, blueberries tout multiple health benefits for multiple functions of the human body. These benefits include:

  • Eye Health
  • Balanced Blood Sugar
  • Cancer Defense
  • Antioxidant Overload
  • Increase in Cognitive Function

With blueberries being able to accomplish so much for human health, the only wonder is why these delicious and extremely beneficial fruits are not eaten more frequently by a larger portion of the population. In celebration of National Blueberry Month, and in recognition of the wondrous properties that blueberries hold, consider making blueberries a larger part of your daily diet.
