As difficult and awkward as it would seem to be, cars are deceptively easy to steal. In fact, a car is stolen approximately every 33 seconds, making cars the number one property theft target in the country. Follow these few steps and keep your car as safe as can be.
This should be a no-brainer. The first deterrent to your car getting stolen is to make sure your doors are locked and your windows are rolled up completely! Cracked windows or unlocked doors are prime targets to car thieves.
Careful with the Keys
Don't ever leave your keys in the car when you are not in it. Don't leave your car in the driveway idling while you run in to grab your wallet. Don't turn your car on and go inside to wait for it to heat up during the winter. Idling cars are screaming to be stolen!
Park in Light
We all know that dark attracts crime and light deters it. However, sometimes there is a disconnect between this principle and our parking habits. Do your best to park in well-lit areas after dark. It takes time to break into a car (granted, not much time) and thieves would prefer to do it in the dark.
If a car thief is determined to take your car, he/she probably will. However, most thieves look around for easy targets. Follow these basic steps and decrease the likelihood that someone will drive away with your car!
